How to set up ropes on Southern Sandstone and climb without causing erosion

  • Avoid moving ropes coming into contact with the rock.

Rig a long sling or static rope extended over the edge of the crag. Ensure the carabiner and moving top-rope are hanging away from the rock.

  • Clean your feet before you climb.

This will reduce erosion to the rock and also help you to climb better! It's a win win situation! Take a tea towel or a rag with you or a piece of carpet. Also do not climb and wet rock.

  • Do not use wire brushes, hard brushes, toothbrushes / boulder brushes to clean the rock.

This will wear away the fragile rock surface.
